Examination Pattern & Question Types
All 30 papers in GATE 2027 follow a standardized Computer Based Test (CBT) structure:
- Total Questions & Marks: 65 Questions carrying a total of 100 Marks over 3 Hours (180 Minutes).
- General Aptitude (GA): 10 Questions (15 Marks) — common to all 30 papers (5 1-mark questions + 5 2-mark questions).
- Subject Section: 55 Questions (85 Marks) covering the core subject syllabus (for engineering papers, this includes 13 marks Engineering Mathematics + 72 marks core subject).

30 Test Papers & New Paper Introduction
GATE 2027 will be conducted across 30 test papers. A new test paper, Robotics & Automation (RA), has been introduced for GATE 2027, while Textile Engineering & Fibre Science (TF) has been restructured under Engineering Sciences (XE).
Two-Paper Combinations & Examination Centres
Candidates may choose to appear in either 1 or up to 2 test papers from the approved combination matrix:
- Computer Science (CS) Primary: Allowed secondary papers are DA, EC, GE, MA, ME, PH, RA, ST.
